REACTION: SHUTTING DOWN MSF ACCESS CAMPAIGN WOULD BE A DISASTER
Release date: 20 June 2024
Reacting to the news that MSF are considering closing its Access campaign, Dr Mohga Kamal-Yanni, Policy co-lead for the People’s Medicines Alliance, said:
“When Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) won a Nobel Prize, the money was invested in setting up the Access campaign, and it now sits at the heart of the global access to medicines movement. Shutting it down would be disastrous for global health.
“The campaign’s high quality research, tenacious advocacy, and phenomenal staff have achieved incredible results, making many medicines available and affordable to people in developing countries.
“At a time when advocacy organisations are facing frequent attacks, it is alarming to see such an act of self-harm from within the global health community. We urge MSF leadership to reconsider their decision and put public health of the poor before any other consideration.”
